Nancy Turner Conceptual hand-pulled prints about women

Artist Statement
My work, which is both conceptual and narrative, is about the stresses that women face due to an inability to control their own lives, and in particular, their reproductive lives.  The inspiration for my work is derived from the women closest to me, from the news media, and from other women artists and is political in nature.  The "Hourglass Lady" represents women stuck in both time and place by the accident of birth.  The "Vessel" represents women loosing control of their reproductive rights and becoming containers, holders of life, useful and voiceless.  These prints speak directly to the issue of Choice for women.  The "Corset Cages" represent abused women and many have stories attached to them.   The "Stress" series is autobiographical and is about my thoughts while I was a student at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida.
